Bio

Antwn Owen-Hicks: Bodhran, Whistle, Pibgorn, Welsh Bagpipes & Vocals
Linda Owen-Jones: Vocals
Rhian Evan Jones: Fiddle
James Rourke: Flute & Whistle

Carreg Lafar was formed in 1993, in Cardiff, although the bands members came originally from all over Wales; Wrexham in the North, Llanelli and Swansea on the South Coast and the valleys of South East Wales. Their backgrounds are diverse, but they all share a love and enthusiasm for the music and culture of Wales.

Spending a great deal of time researching and arranging material, culminating in their debut album Ysbryd y Werinreleased in November, 1995 on Sain Records, Carreg Lafar has played regularly in South Wales and across the border. They have performed at the Cnapan Festival in West Wales, the Pontardawe World Music Festival and the L'Orient Interceltic Festival in Brittany where they played as support to the sold out Dan Ar Braz concert in front of 10,000 people. In the Fall of 1997 they made their first tour of the United States and since then have been invited back to perform again at many venues. Their second CDHyn has been licensed to Marquis Classics in Toronto and has received favorable reviews as far afield as Japan.

Carreg Lafar's passionate and lively performances always generate a great response from their audiences and have revitalized many people's views of Welsh music. Through a mixture of traditional and traditionally inspired original music, the group conveys a fresh and vibrant spirit whilst remaining firmly rooted in the language and musical heritage of their homeland.

The Press Are Saying

By their judicious borrowing, Carreg Lafar might just have done for Welsh Music what early Steeleye did for English folk - updated and expanded the tradition...
DIRTY LINEN

Their music has a strong Celtic influence...accentuated by Linda Owen-Jones' "Trio Bulgarka" vocal pyrotechnics...while the full bodied instrumental work reeks of confidence and commitment.
